John Schaak

As Chief Innovation & Growth Officer, John Schaak is responsible for driving profitable growth through the acquisition of new customers and sales of new products and services. John leads company efforts to solve industry problems by identifying new opportunities and markets, as well as innovative new products and services. With his strong commitment to exemplary client service and collaborative approach to both internal and external relationships, he has a demonstrated ability to help players in the healthcare continuum grow their businesses while reducing costs, improving operations, and serving their members more effectively.

John brings extensive leadership experience to his position. He was previously the president of Scion Dental and SKYGEN USA’s chief operating officer. Before that, John was a partner with the national law firm Quarles & Brady.

John has been listed on the Wisconsin Super Lawyers, Rising Stars list multiple times. He holds a Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Tim Carney

Vice President

Tim Carney serves as vice president of BrightBenefits, a dental and vision insurance company, where he oversees plan administration, operations, reporting and external partnerships. He helped found BrightBenefits in 2019 as a strategic division of National Guardian Life Insurance Company.

Most recently, Tim served as vice president of Commercial Sales for Avesis, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. During his career there he expanded territories, improved lead generation and introduced strategic partnerships. He was also integral to developing new products and initiating marketing campaigns, promotions and communications for healthcare partners.

Prior to joining Avesis, Tim served as senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for Davis Vision, the nation’s third largest vision insurer with approximately 22 million members.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management degree from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He is a former United States Marine and has served on the boards for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, American Red Cross-Arkansas and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Dr. Larry Paul

Chief Dental Officer

SKYGEN

Dr. Larry Paul is the chief dental officer for SKYGEN, overseeing all aspects of the company’s dental utilization review and management activities. In his role, Dr. Paul is the clinical face of the company with a focus on using technology to empower population health-based efforts. Dr. Paul uses his clinical expertise and his experience in various roles in the industry to understand the member and provider experiences to ensure the best possible outcomes. 

Prior to joining SKYGEN, he served as Vice President of Corporate Dental at AmeriHealth Caritas, a Philadelphia-based company, and prior to that as Dental Director at Keystone First, AmeriHealth Caritas’ plan in the southeast Pennsylvania market. Before that, Dr. Paul was the Dental Director at US Healthcare and the National Dental Director at its successor company, Aetna US Healthcare. He was also a consultant for the Department of Public Welfare in Pennsylvania. Dr. Paul served as a clinical dentist for 10 years before leaving for the corporate sector.  

Dr. Paul earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry and a master’s degree in science and environmental health from Temple University. He completed his general dentistry residency at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. In addition, he earned bachelor’s degrees in history and science from Penn State University. Dr. Paul serves on several boards including the board of visitors for his dental school alma mater.
