Edward A. Murphy is president of Life & Specialty Ventures’ Dental Management company. He leads a dental insurance business that serves over 1.6 million members under the Blue Cross Blue Shield brand in seven states. Since joining LSV in 2011, the company’s dental revenue has grown by 60%.

Ed has advanced the adoption of the company’s innovative medical-dental integration programs — Dental4Health® and LSV Connected Care® ― which contribute to the improvement of the overall health and well-being of members while driving down health care costs. He is a co-founding board member of the Harvard Initiative to Integrate Oral Health, which he helped establish in 2015, and is a former member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. In addition, Ed is a member of the Strategic Advisory Council of the prestigious Santa Fe Group, the nation’s foremost oral health think tank.

Before joining LSV, Ed co-founded Dental Benefit Providers and served as its chief executive officer. In 1998, he negotiated and oversaw his company’s merger with UnitedHealth Group (UHG). He served as chairman and chief executive officer of Specialized Healthcare Services/UnitedHealthcare Dental and served on UHG’s executive council before retiring. In 2006, Ed co-founded Preventive Medicine, a health informatics company that developed a proprietary health and behavioral change model based on e-learning technology. Ed also served as a board member of the National Association of Dental Plans, serving as its chair for three years.

Solomon G. Brotman, D.D.S., M.A.G.D. is vice president, national clinical operations, for Life & Specialty Ventures (LSV). LSV’s dental insurance business provides benefits in seven states under the Blue Cross Blue Shield brand. Sol works closely with medical directors to oversee medical-dental integration and other dental-, head-, and neck-related issues.

Before joining LSV in 2018, Sol was a full-time general dentist. He maintains a part-time practice in Jacksonville, Fla. Sol is a clinical instructor at the neural and pain sciences department at the University of Maryland and a lecturer at Louisiana State University. He was a clinical assistant professor in operative dentistry and facial pain at the University of Florida and a lecturer at Nova Southeastern on professional ethics and facial pain. Sol is a practitioner-investigator and co-author for the National Dental Practice-based Research Network. He is a board member of the Harvard Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine and is the only private practice dentist to be appointed a senior scholar of the Santa Fe Group, the world’s leading dental think tank.

Sol served as chair of the Florida Board of Dentistry. He has provided consulting services to over 30 medical insurance companies and was chief financial officer of Image Dynamics, Inc., a marketing and crisis management firm. Sol is currently trustee and audit chair of the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the largest public foundation in the state.

Sol received his dental degree from the University of Maryland and a certificate in comprehensive general dentistry from the University of Florida. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, and Pierre Fauchard Academy.
